に対して is what the action is aimed at — answers toward what

お客様(きゃくさま)に対(たい)して失礼(しつれい)な態度(たいど)は取(と)れません。

Okyakusama ni taishite shitsurei na taido wa toremasen.

You cannot be rude toward a customer.

An attitude toward a person always takes に対して, never について

について は内容(ないよう)、に対(たい)して は向(む)き。これが見分(みわ)け方(かた)です。

Tsuite wa naiyō, taishite wa muki. Kore ga miwakekata desu.

について is content, に対して is direction — that is the test.
