〜であれ／〜であろうと

理由(りゆう)が何(なに)であれ、遅刻(ちこく)は遅刻(ちこく)です。

Riyū ga nan de are, chikoku wa chikoku desu.

であれ means whatever, pairing with a question word and an unaffected conclusion

どんな事情(じじょう)であろうと、規則(きそく)は守(まも)ります。

Donna jijō de arō to, kisoku wa mamorimasu.

Whatever the circumstances, I keep to the rules.

であろうと is the other form, identical in meaning

後(うし)ろは必(かなら)ず揺(ゆ)るがない断定(だんてい)になります。

Ushiro wa kanarazu yuruganai dantei ni narimasu.

What follows is always an unshaken assertion.
