慣(な)れぬこととて、失礼(しつれい)をいたしました。

Narenu koto tote, shitsurei o itashimashita.

Being unaccustomed to it, I was discourteous.

こととて gives a reason humbly, in an archaic register — common in letters of apology

急(きゅう)なこととて、準備(じゅんび)が整(ととの)いません。

Kyū na koto tote, junbi ga totonoimasen.

It came up so suddenly that we are not ready.

The first term is usually your own shortfall, apologised for in advance

現代(げんだい)では手紙(てがみ)の中(なか)にしか残(のこ)っていません。

Gendai de wa tegami no naka ni shika nokotte imasen.

Today it survives only in letters.
