新(あたら)しい 車(くるま)が 欲(ほ)しいです。

欲しい wants a THING; V-たい wants to DO something

時間(じかん)が 欲(ほ)しいです。

Jikan ga hoshii desu.

I want time.

The object takes が, not を — as with 好き and 上手

何(なに)が 欲(ほ)しいですか。

Nani ga hoshii desu ka.
