ご利用(りよう)の際(さい)は、身分(みぶん)証(しょう)をご提示(ていじ)ください。

際 is the formal とき, at home on signs, in manuals and in service

お帰(かえ)りの際(さい)に、鍵(かぎ)をお返(かえ)しください。

Okaeri no sai ni, kagi o okaeshi kudasai.

Please return the key when you leave.

It usually pairs with an お- or ご- honorific noun

日常(にちじょう)会話(かいわ)で使(つか)うと、かえって堅(かた)く聞(き)こえます。

Nichijō kaiwa de tsukau to, kaette kataku kikoemasu.

In everyday speech it comes across as stiff instead.

Between friends とき is enough
