N1Pattern 24

〜はおろか

Formula:

N

Examples & key points

漢字(かんじ)はおろか、ひらがなも書(か)けません。

Kanji wa oroka, hiragana mo kakemasen.

Never mind kanji — he cannot write hiragana either.

はおろか says never mind the first — even the second; the second must be more basic

海外(かいがい)はおろか、県(けん)外(がい)にも出(で)たことがない。

Kaigai wa oroka, kengai ni mo deta koto ga nai.

Never mind abroad — he has never left the prefecture.

も follows, denying the more basic one too

順序(じゅんじょ)を逆(ぎゃく)にすると意味(いみ)が壊(こわ)れます。

Junjo o gyaku ni suru to imi ga kowaremasu.

Reverse the order and the sense collapses.

ひらがなはおろか漢字も fails, since kanji are the harder of the two
