〜通り（に）

説明書の通りに組み立ててください。

Setsumeisho no tōri ni kumitatete kudasai.

Please assemble it as the manual says.

通り is exactly as given, with no improvising

思った通りでした。

Omotta tōri deshita.

It was just as I thought.

On a past form it means just as expected

名詞に付くときは の が必要です。

Meishi ni tsuku toki wa no ga hitsuyō desu.

A noun needs の before it.

Both forms occur, with the の and without it, and the shorter one is more colloquial.
