〜っぱなし

窓を開けっぱなしで出かけました。

Mado o akeppanashi de dekakemashita.

I went out and left the window open.

っぱなし is left unattended or held throughout, always negatively

三時間立ちっぱなしで足が痛いです。

Sanjikan tachippanashi de ashi ga itai desu.

My legs hurt after standing for three hours.

The second sense is the state continuing

まま は中立でも使えますが、こちらは使えません。

Mama wa chūritsu demo tsukaemasu ga, kochira wa tsukaemasen.

まま can be neutral; this one cannot.

That is the cleanest difference
