油断(ゆだん)したばかりに、失敗(しっぱい)しました。

Yudan shita bakari ni, shippai shimashita.

Just because I let my guard down, I failed.

ばかりに always leads to a bad outcome, with regret in it

一言(ひとこと)言(い)ったばかりに、喧嘩(けんか)になりました。

Hitokoto itta bakari ni, kenka ni narimashita.

One word from me and it turned into a row.

The cause is usually trivial, and that gap is the point

だけに は良(よ)い結果(けっか)も取(と)れますが、こちらは取(と)れません。

Dake ni wa yoi kekka mo toremasu ga, kochira wa toremasen.

だけに allows a good outcome; this one does not.

That is the cleanest test between the two
