〜ではあるまいし

子供(こども)ではあるまいし、自分(じぶん)で考(かんが)えなさい。

Kodomo de wa arumai shi, jibun de kangaenasai.

You are not a child — think for yourself.

ではあるまいし is you are not X, so — reproachful, with a demand or criticism after

新人(しんじん)ではあるまいし、そんなミスは困(こま)ります。

Shinjin de wa arumai shi, sonna misu wa komarimasu.

You are hardly a newcomer; mistakes like that are a problem.

It is blunt: for equals or juniors, never upward

これは否定(ひてい)推量(すいりょう)の古(ふる)い形(かたち)です。

Kore wa hitei suiryō no furui katachi desu.

This is an older form of the negative conjecture.
